The scenario is that you are currently booked out on the date the person on the phone is asking about. You tempt yourself to book the show and then sub-contract another dj service to do the show for you. Pretty neat!! You can be making money in 2 places! Consider what is all possible before deciding to do this.

- Do you know the dj you are going to call to do this show for you as you book it?

- Does the customer think the show is being done by your company or another company working for you that night?

- Are you handling all the leg work involved in this show and getting a piece of the $$.

To answers to all of the stated above very simply...

You can get away with giving yourself a couple extra dollars by practicing this way of booking only by being extremely honest with everybody involved.

First, tell the customer that you are booked on that night with your system but you have a colleague that you work with a lot and they are available on that night for their show. By telling the customer this you will not surprise them if they realize that the person doing their dance is not who they thought.

Second, make sure that you know for sure that there is a dj around that can cover this event! There should also be no doubt in your mind that the dj that agrees to do this show for you is reliable enough and has the comparable system/music as you have told the customer about.

Third, tell the dj you are sub-contracting to exactly how much you are taking out of the price and how much you are paying them. Chances are that the customer may talk about the price when paying somehow or another. If you mislead them on financials then immediately your way of business will leave a bad taste in their mouth.

Last, handle all the contract and paperwork yourself and fax it to the sub-contracted dj so they have it for the event. When having them take care of the paperwork you are out of the loop to far and the room for error is large.

The other option for you to consider is to just give the referral to another company that is interested in the show and let them handle it with the customer. This way won't make you rich but the appreciation of offering them a referral will be very likely to come back around when they need someone to cover a show on a booked out night.
